Professional Line - DMR
Coming in second to the Public Safety tier is the Professional Line of DMR (Digital Mobile Radios). DMR works exceptionally well on all vessel sizes, including yachts. TETRA Networks is an example of a DMR network that is contained by single or multiple repeaters that are webbed together via Cat5 network cable. When used in talk-around-mode, DMR radios can be used without a repeater(s). As a result, DMR can offer a more inexpensive solution, but without the same level of communication coverage. Generally speaking, vessels that are 50m or larger require at least one repeater for coverage across the entire boat.

DMR Benefits
DMR benefits are included in TETRA but are excluded from the commercial line. DMR radio communications can offer caller ID, Bluetooth connection, caller alerts, TDMA spectrum efficiency/several talkpaths per repeater, UHF band communications, and text messaging. Plus, it is a cost-effective solution for migratable (analog or digital) static free interaction.
